This means we test various phenotypes of a strain, comparing growth, structure, handling, and characteristics – keeping only the cuts that truly impress us. All cuttings are shipped as rooted plants, so you can start with your setup right away. Additionally, we prioritize transparent quality: our plants are regularly tested in the lab for HLVd – currently about every 3 months – and the test results are available.

What "own selections" means at Woodpecker's Farm

"Our Own Selections" is meant literally: These cuts come from seed runs that we have carried out ourselves. In these runs, multiple phenotypes of a genetic are evaluated against each other. The goal is not "as much as possible," but to identify the best keepers—i.e., plants that impress in their overall package: growth, stability, handling, and character.

So, if you are specifically looking for something that is not identical in every assortment, you've come to the right place: Pheno selections are by definition more individual than "standard" cuts because the selection results from a specific screening.

Our Selection Approach: What We Focus On

Pheno-hunting is not about a single criterion, but about balance. Typical factors we consider when making our selection:

  • Growth & Structure: compact vs. stretchy, internodal spacing, stability
  • Handling in Setup: training tolerance, stress resilience, general care characteristics
  • Character/Profile: aroma and flavor profile in terms of "fruity", "earthy", "gassy", "sweet/dessert", etc.
  • Consistency: how reliably a phenotype performs over time

This is how we create cuts that we not only find "on trend," but that we can confidently offer as our selection.
